New Hubschrauber Release! … If it weren't for Windows

Hubschrauber Release 2 is done. Nearly. It works fine on Mac OS X, and it works well on Windows 2000, too. The problem is on the more modern versions of Windows.

Yesterday, until late in the evening, I harassed my pre-alpha-tester (who runs Vista), sending him new builds every five minutes, but so far, without luck. There seems to be a problem with the side-by-side-assemblies, something is conflicting with the Microsoft Runtime DLLs. No, I don’t know what that really means either.

Now I do believe that I found the solution. Apparently, Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Express Edition thought it was funny to create a manifest file that said Hubschrauber needed two different versions of the CRT DLLs at the same time. This is, of course, complete rubbish, and it seems that Vista agrees. Windows 2000 blissfully ignores the manifest and lives happily ever after.

I finally created a new version with a modified manifest, and I think that in theory, it should work - but my victim/tester is offline. So all I can say is: The second alpha release might happen some time today, if I’m lucky. If not, it’ll be sometime later.
